Workshops
Midlife, and menopause, can be an opportunity for women to look at their lives and reshape them if they choose, in the light of their own changes. It often helps to have time away from normal life to do this. It can be good to take stock in the company of a group of women of the same age and stage of life, and it can also be useful to acquire tools to carry on the process at home. Liz Perkins sometimes runs day or weekend workshops with a mix of the following themes:
- Making midlife meaningful – what is it all for, and what is it about for you?
- Making sense of change, physical, emotional or social – ways of easing the
transitions and looking after yourself.
- Growing a sense of the future – finding new ways to be.
- Tracing the path – what can you build on? What would you like to do more, or less, of? What would you like to change?
Depending on the time available, Liz uses a mixture of ideas, discussion, time out to think or just be, and simple creative activities as an aid to self-discovery – no previous skills needed!
Liz ran her own programme of weekend workshops for five years, and has also worked with a wide variety of existing groups. She has run workshops and given talks in settings as diverse as local groups of the Women’s Institute, the Nottingham Women’s Centre, the Glastonbury Goddess Conference and Sheffield University’s Women’s Informed Childbearing and Health (WICH) Research Group. She is available for ‘taster’ sessions, short courses or day workshops – please get in touch if you think your group would like to explore midlife or menopause with an experienced, sympathetic and informed facilitator.
Contact Liz if you would like something arranged for your group in your own area; she will be happy to discuss your group’s needs with you.
