Workshops

Want to explore midlife with other women at the same stage?

Liz PerkinsAt 58, Liz Perkins is coming to the end of her own menopausal transition. She sees menopause as an opportunity for women to look at their lives and reshape them if they choose, in the light of their own changes. It often helps to have time away from normal life to do this. It can also be useful to acquire tools to carry on the process at home. Liz runs workshops with a mix of the following themes: workshop photo

  • Making midlife meaningful – what is it all for, and what is it about for you?

  • Making sense of change – ways of easing the
    transitions and looking after yourself.

  • Growing a sense of the future – finding new ways to be.

  • Tracing the path – what can you build on? What would you like to do more, or less, of? What would you like to change?

Workshops are for women only. They will involve a mixture of ideas, discussion, time out to think or just be, and simple creative activities as an aid to self-discovery – no previous skills needed! It can be helpful to take stock in the company of a small group of women of the same age and stage of life. Why not sign up for one of the weekends in the open programme?

Alternatively, you could contact Liz if you would like something arranged for your group in your own area. Liz has worked with a wide variety of groups of women, running workshops and giving talks in settings as diverse as the Women’s Institute, the Nottingham Women’s Centre, the Glastonbury Goddess Conference and Sheffield University’s Women’s Informed Childbearing and Health (WICH) Research Group. She is available for ‘taster’ sessions, short courses or day workshops – please get in touch if you think your group would like to explore midlife or menopause with an experienced, sympathetic and informed facilitator. Liz is a member of Health Promotion Associates and has experience of working with women on their own issues as well as with health professionals.

Liz will be happy to discuss your group’s needs with you; for a couple of ideas for day events, click here. You can read more about Liz here.

Harvesting for the Future
26-28 September 2008
Venue: Morley Retreat and Conference House, Derbyshire

Cost: £160

Autumn can be a time of abundance, or it may bring awareness of shortages. At this stage of our lives we have a lot of experience to harvest, some of it good and positive, some of it painful and hard won. Like farmers, we need to sort out what we can use or give away, what is seed-corn for the future, and what we should plough back in. It is easy to undervalue what we have learnt, so together we will support one another in identifying our personal harvest and its implications, both in caring for others and in looking after ourselves better in the future.

Reclaiming our Womanly Heritage Group, 2006Reclaiming our Womanly Heritage
November 7-9 2008
Venue: Morley Retreat and Conference House, Derbyshire

Cost: £160

Some of us have easy links with older women in our families. Some of us don’t. Either way, choosing our spiritual foremothers gives us a sense of continuity with earlier generations which can support and ground us. This is a chance for all of us to deepen our connection with women who trod a similar path before us, whether in story or history, myth or fact.

The Venues

All venues set out to provide a quiet atmosphere in which relaxation and reflection is made easy, and all have their own grounds. They are all accessible by public transport, within 5 miles of a railway station with bus and taxi services. Weekends start with an evening meal on Friday night and finish after lunch on Sunday. Prices are for full board and single rooms; if you would like to come with a friend and share, this may make it slightly cheaper at some venues. Contact Liz for further details on this or non-residential rates.
